Filming is set to begin imminently on Hasan Minhaj’s latest Netflix project, the coming-of-age comedy Best of the Best. The film will step into the world of competitive collegiate Bollywood dance, previously set up at Amazon MGM before transitioning to Netflix. Here’s everything we know so far about Best of the Best.
Best of the Best is an upcoming Netflix Original coming-of-age comedy directed by Lena Khan (Flora and Ulysses, Never Have I Ever). The film stars Hasan Minhaj, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Prashanth Venkataramanujam. Both Minhaj and Venkataramanujam are also on board as producers. Interestingly, the project was originally set up at Amazon and was first announced in December 2021 under the title For The Culture.
Netflix’s head of film, Dan Lin, and Jonathan Eirich are producing the film through their production company, Rideback. Ellen H. Schwartz has been confirmed as an executive producer. Sheroum Kim and Sebastian Hernandez are the two Netflix executives behind the project. Hasan Minhaj’s production company, 186K Films, is behind the project. Bernie Telsey and Kristian Charbonier are casting the project.

Who are the cast members of Best of the Best?
At the time of writing, there are three confirmed cast members for Best of the Best: Hasan Minhaj, who is most well-known for his stand-up comedy and work on The Daily Show. He previously hosted his comedy news series, Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj, on Netflix, which ran for 39 episodes between 2018 and 2020. As for film roles, he has starred in It Ends with Us, Babes, Haunted Mansion, and No Hard Feelings.
Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, who broke ground with Never Have I Ever and more recently Freakier Friday, will also appear alongside Priyanka Kedia, best known for Everything To Me.
What is the production status of Best of the Best?
The film is currently in pre-production, with filming scheduled to begin on July 28, 2025. It’s expected to shoot for several weeks and has an end date of September 11, 2025. It’s being shot in New Jersey, in the US.
When is Best of the Best coming to Netflix?
At the earliest, we would expect to see the movie on Netflix sometime in the second half of 2026.
